Coaching Info
Our coaching staff is made up of local riders and parents who want to share their love of riding with student-athletes. Our coaches have a variety of skill levels. We want adults who are enthusiastic, supportive, and willing to show up 1 to 3 times a week to participate in (and support) the student-athletes on team rides.
Anyone interested is invited to join us for one ‘sample’ ride. There are 3 levels of NICA Coach Certification and you will be asked to complete the official NICA training and registration required for the level you are interested in achieving. This learning is mostly done online but will require several in-person classes for Level 2 & 3 Coaches. (more info here) Don’t let this scare you, learning wilderness first-aid is pretty bad-ass!
Level 1 - Ride Support. Can ride with athletes AND a Level 2 or 3 Coach.
Level 2 - Ride Leaders. Can lead rides and teach more skills because of NICA MTB training.
Level 3 - Experienced Ride Leaders and Head Coaching Staff.
Do you have to be an advanced rider?
Riding experience definitely helps, but we’ve had many parents join as beginners themselves and progress alongside the kids. If you’re newer to riding, it helps to start at the beginning of the season so your endurance builds alongside the athletes. You will need to be able to be on your bike for several hours per ride.
Can I ride an e-bike?
Yes, you can! As long as we’re riding trails where they are allowed. Even our head coach rides one some days, these kids can get fast.
